| We had an interesting and very challenging assignment when one of our clients brought us their collection of signed GIANTS baseball cards to frame. The cards, which were collected over time, included all of the major players of the 2010 World Series winning team; added to the cards were 2 World Series tickets.
Both sides of the cards had to be shown, as well, necessitating a stained-glass frame (for 2-sides of glass), which would sandwich the double-matted cards. Though Michael had done a similar job for these clients in 2003, what made this job even more complicated is that the cards had to be in a particular order, and were of uneven sizes, making a symmetrical system of cuts impossible. However, Michael planned a mathematically-accurate arrangement be planned out for each of the 25 cards (50 cuts in all), which was also aesthetically-pleasing. Once the mats were cut, the cards had to be individually mounted with acid-free corners. Deb made a GIANTS logo strip for the base of the front mat, which was applied. Thinking that the hard part was over, we fitted the double-matted cards into the frame, which then shattered one piece of glass! One of the baseball cards was extra thick, so we finally had to use 2 thin pieces of plexi-glass to complete the project. Our clients, the Hesletts, were thrilled with the job, something that is truly one-of-a-kind, as far as we know. |
